Electroacupuncture
Advanced Pain Relief and Muscle Recovery
Electroacupuncture, also called electrotherapy dry needling, takes needling one step further. At Baysictechnique Physiotherapy in Mount Druitt, we apply gentle electrical stimulation to acupuncture needles to target muscles and nerves more deeply than needling alone.
It is an evidence-based option we reach for when pain is stubborn, muscles will not switch on properly, or standard treatment has plateaued.
What Is Electroacupuncture?
Fine, sterile needles are placed as they would be for
dry needling, and controlled electrical impulses are then passed through them. Those impulses stimulate nerves and muscles to reduce pain, improve circulation, ease muscle spasms and assist with muscle activation and strengthening.
The sensation is a gentle tapping or pulsing rather than anything sharp, and your physiotherapist selects the type and intensity of stimulation to suit your condition and comfort. Different frequencies do different jobs, some settings calm pain signals while others encourage muscle activation, and choosing between them is part of the clinical skill.
What Electroacupuncture Can Help With
We use electroacupuncture for neck and back pain, shoulder, knee and hip problems, sports injuries, muscle strains and tendon injuries, arthritis-related pain, muscle weakness, chronic pain conditions and post-operative rehabilitation. It is particularly useful for relieving muscle spasms and encouraging muscles to activate after injury or surgery.
It rarely works solo. Sessions sit alongside hands-on treatment and a targeted
exercise program, so short-term relief converts into long-term function.
Is It Right for You?
Not everyone needs the electrical element. Some people respond beautifully to standard dry needling, and adding stimulation would gain nothing. Others feel a clear difference only when the current is added. Your physiotherapist at our Mount Druitt clinic assesses which camp you fall into and will tell you honestly, because the goal is your recovery, not selling the fanciest option.
We also screen carefully first, as electrical stimulation is not suitable for everyone, including people with certain implanted devices.
Clients visit us for electroacupuncture from Mount Druitt and across Western Sydney, often after standard treatment elsewhere has plateaued. Because we offer needling with and without stimulation under one roof, your treatment can step up or down as your body responds, without changing clinics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does electroacupuncture hurt?
Most people describe a gentle tapping or pulsing sensation in the muscle rather than pain. The intensity is adjusted to stay comfortable throughout the session.
What is the difference between electroacupuncture and dry needling?
Dry needling uses needles alone to release trigger points. Electroacupuncture adds controlled electrical impulses through the needles for stronger stimulation of nerves and muscles. We offer both and recommend based on your assessment.
Is electroacupuncture safe for everyone?
It is safe for most people when performed by qualified physiotherapists, but it is not suitable for some conditions and implanted devices such as pacemakers. We screen your health history before any treatment.
How long does an electroacupuncture session take?
The needling and stimulation portion typically runs 10 to 20 minutes within your physiotherapy appointment, alongside assessment and any hands-on treatment.
